This summer, I've been to Lucban for the Pahiyas Festival. I also went swimming last Holy Week and I was able to visit my old friends. I did these activities without worrying too much of my skin. Rebonding and Hair Straighteners

It's been a while since I got my hair rebonded, and now I'm in the midst of contemplating what hairstyle to try this year. There are plenty of hairstyles, but since my hair is not that healthy and beautiful I always settled in hair rebonding. Although before I tried to curl my hair and it was a disaster, not because my stylist was not good, it's just that my hair got rebonded several times and it's a pain in the ass to make it curly again. Sigh!

I get easily bored having long rebonded hair. There were instances that I tied my hair just a couple of weeks after the treatment. I know I wasted my money for the treatment, but what can I do, I feel irritated and hot having all my hair at my back.

For almost one year, I'm using hair straighteners. I preferred pricey straightening iron because of its quality and durability, plus it won't cause much hair damage unlike fake hair straightening iron. I spent time searching for a couture arm sling here in the Philippines, but in my dismay, most couture items are from abroad. I'm hopeless, so I decided to ask my mother to create an arm sling, customized it, for the sake of fashion and comfort.

Nowadays, lip and cheek tint from Bodyshop is one of my favorites. Aside from the Oh so natural effect or a healthy glowing effect, I also like the packaging, its cute. This one is another "grab and go" make up.

Let me share some pros and cons about this product.

When applied it looks oh so natural

Cons:

When you put it on your face you should rub it immediately or else it will create a red line or marks

Debunking the Myths of HPV

According to US data, HPV or the human papillomavirus is the most common sexually transmitted infection. In most cases, the body’s immune system clears HPV naturally. However, with more than half of sexually active people estimated to contract the highly contagious virus in their lifetime, the risk of infection represents a health threat, especially as some types of HPV may lead to serious diseases like cancer.

To effectively mitigate the potential risks associated with HPV, it is important to know what we are up against. Information about HPV often either exaggerates or understates the actual threat so it is important to debunk some popular myths about the virus.

MYTH: HPV only affects women.

FACT: HPV affects both men and women. Although it is often mentioned as the cause of cervical cancer, certain low-risk types of HPV can lead to genital warts in both genders. The WHO also links high-risk types HPV to other diseases, such as cancers of the vulva, vagina, penis and anus and a subset of head and neck cancers.

MYTH: Only sexually promiscuous people get HPV.

FACT: Total abstinence from genital contact is the most effective HPV prevention method. However, one doesn’t need to have simultaneous and multiple partners to get infected. Even if someone is in a monogamous relationship, one can still be at risk of infection if his/her sexual partner has had past sexual relationships. One can also catch HPV without intercourse as the virus can be transmitted through hand-to-genital contact and mere genital contact even without penetration. HPV, in rare cases, may also be transmitted from mother to child during childbirth.

MYTH: HPV infections manifest visible signs.

FACT: Although genital warts are recognized signs of infection, most HPV infections do not present signs or symptoms, and thus could be passed on unknowingly. Notably, most men who get HPV do not develop any symptoms or health problems and thus would likely not realize that they’re carrying the virus.

MYTH: Condoms offer protection from HPV infection.

FACT: The use of condoms (all the time and correctly) can reduce the risk of HPV infection and passing it on to your partner, but does not provide complete protection because HPV can infect areas that are not covered by a condom.

MYTH: HPV vaccines are all the same.

FACT: There are two kinds of HPV vaccines available in the market today—the bivalent and quadrivalent HPV vaccine. Both vaccines protect against HPV 16 and 18, which cause approximately 70% of all cases of cervical cancer. Notably, only the quadrivalent HPV vaccine offers protection against HPV types 6 and 11, which are the causes of around 90% of genital warts in both men and women.

Combating the Threat of HPV in the Philippines

According to US data, HPV or human papillomavirus is the most common sexually transmitted infection. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 50% of sexually active males and females will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives. While most infections clear on their own, depending on the virus type, some infections can cause HPV-related cancers while other types cause genital warts. Many people with HPV do not show signs or symptoms and they pass on the virus unknowingly.

Increasing awareness of the diseases HPV can cause takes on great importance amid the lack of available information on how to reduce the risk of infection that could result in serious health repercussions like cancer.

“Help Fight HPV” is a campaign aimed at sounding the alarm on the threats of HPV in both men and women. It urges Filipinos to actively participate in the crusade against HPV by spreading the word on ways to help prevent infection.

Contrary to popular notions, HPV is not exclusively a concern of women. HPV affects both men and women. It does not just cause cervical cancer, but genital warts and other HPV-related cancers also.

High-risk types of HPV cause virtually 100% of all cases of cervical cancer, which kills an estimated 12 Filipino women daily. They can likewise cause some vulvar cancers, and some vaginal cancers. The CDC also links HPV to other uncommon cancers such as anal and penile cancer.

Aside from genital cancers, certain types of HPV (low-risk types) may cause genital warts in both men and women. Genital warts affect about 32 million men and women worldwide annually.

Although a healthy immune system can usually clear HPV and there are available treatments for HPV-related diseases, there is no known cure for the virus itself. Fortunately, men and women can now be vaccinated to help protect them against certain HPV-related diseases. Consult your doctor for information about ways of helping to prevent HPV-related cancers and diseases.

My fractured bone didn't stop me from attending Ipanema blogger event last March 18, 2010 at Whitespace in Makati City.

It was the 2nd year of Ipanema Blogger Event, like the other year, it was a success. The event hosted by DJ Ann from Wave 89.1, the most influential RnB station in the country. It was followed by Mr. Patxi Elizalde's opening spiel, then an AVP presentation about caring for Mother Earth the right way. The Ballet Philippines danced again wearing the colorful sea collection of Ipanema GB and the show ended in a raffle draw, the grand prize is the special edition of Ipanema Thong with swarovzki crystals.

Despite the heavy traffic due to closure of EDSA and some re-route, I still witnessed the unveiling of Sassa's 2010 Swimwear Collection. It was held at ThreeSixty Resto Bar in A. Venue Mall, Makati City and it was hosted by Hotta Hotta, Judah.

I don't have decent pictures of the fashion show because of the very uncooperative light, but still the Sassa Event was a success. It was raining tankinis and bikinis, sunblock lotions, bikini wax gcs and other prizes and some take home goodies.

The mix and match concept of Sassa Swimwear Collection makes me feel more excited for summer, I should slice some unwanted fats in my tummy before I wear those uber sexy tankini and bikini. Who doesn't want swimsuits right? Summer is coming very very soon.

I can't forget the foodums also, so yummy, especially the BUCHI FERRERO :P

Yeah, I declared my lunch break as a primp and pamper hour. I visited VSRC clinic at G1-G2 117 C. Palanca, Legaspi Village in Makati City to avail my 60 minutes Superskin Facial and had my trip to Skinvana. It was my first time in VSRC, and I'm glad that Ms. Jet (the one who did my facial) and Ms. Karen (Junior Manager for Marketing of VSRC) were very accommodating.

Soothing and Relaxing Music:

Music really contributes a big part in relaxation. In VSRC, you can hear the sounds of a chirping birds, soothing sounds of nature and other relaxing music. All you have to do is to close your eyes, and imagine that you are out of this urban zone.

My Facial Experience:

Cleansing was the very first part, next was facial steaming for around 15 minutes (to maximize the pores for the extracting procedure), after 15 minutes she extracted white and black heads on my face, then she put a facial mask which was good for 7 minutes. She allowed me to sleep but I decided not to, (If it happened that I fell asleep, I couldn't share my experiences here). After, she peeled off the mask then she applied the anti-bacterial gel, a toner and a moisturizer while doing the facial massage.

During the removal of my white heads and black heads, Ms. Jet's hand was a way lighter than I expected, no harsh feeling afterwards. A total primping and pampering experience in the middle of my working day. A must try!

Pilates after Pregnancy

Losing weight is what most preggies want right after giving birth, and I'm one of them.

During my pregnancy all I did was to eat what I want, I didn't think about diet at all. But in my dismay right after giving birth, my tummy was still big, like when I'm on my 6th month. I don't know what to do, I have to wait until my bleeding stops, and my OB said it will vanish soon when my uterus gets back to its normal size. I waited till I get bored and that was the time I decided to do something, of course with my OB-Gyne's permission.

Aside from the traditional HILOT which I honored it really helped me in getting back in my old shape I tried the PILATES. I find Pilates as an easy way of losing weight, toning muscles and flatten my tummy. I also find it convenient because I can do it in my bed even if I'm with my baby.

Now I know I'm on the right track, its been two months since I gave birth and most of my friends told me it seems I didn't get pregnant. I will continue Pilates that is for sure.

A must have on my kikay kit

I know I have plenty of kikay stuff on my kit, but I can't stop myself lurking for new beauty products.

First on my list is the Garnier eye roll-on, this product is enriched with caffeine, it hydrates and refreshes tired eyes, the innovative roll on massages the eye area. It reduces the appearance of dark circle and bags under the eyes. Definitely, this is a must have for a bright eyed look!
